While the mainstream media’s focus has been on boats and football, New Zealanders have been starring on the world’s motor sport stage.
As of July 13 there have been 14 V8 Supercar races so far this season, with all but two won by New Zealand drivers Scott McLaughlin (Falcon), Fabian Coulthard (Falcon) and Shane van Gisbergen (Holden). McLaughlin leads the championship, with Coulthard third and Van Gisbergen fifth.
Brendon Hartley and Earl Bamber had an amazing come from behind victory for Porsche at Le Mans, and currently lead the FIA World Endurance Car Championship. Hayden Paddon placed second in Rally Poland, and Scott Dixon is leading the Indycar Championship.
